Professional Recording Studio in the Hudson Valley

A residential facility with a tuned live room, three Steinway grand pianos, and a fully integrated signal chain.

One Soul Studios is a professional recording studio in the Hudson Valley, set in a residential facility on six acres of woods in New Baltimore, NY. The studio is built around a live room engineered for acoustic music, three Steinway grand pianos, a top-tier microphone collection, and a signal chain anchored by Merging Technologies converters running into Samplitude Pro X8.

The facility is led by Patrick Lo Re — acoustician and recording engineer with three decades of experience working with artists across jazz, classical, and contemporary music.

The Live Room

The main tracking room covers 32 by 24 feet with a ceiling that rises to 22 feet at the apex. The volume is what a grand piano requires to project without compression — and what string ensembles, choirs, and brass sections require to develop their full sound.

The acoustic design combines Quadratic Residue Diffusers, Helmholtz absorbers, and acoustic polarization. The decay sits at approximately 0.8 seconds. A variable acoustic system allows the room to be tuned wetter or drier on a session-by-session basis. Three large isolation booths connect to the main room, providing separation for ensemble work while keeping visual contact between players. Climate control runs year-round.

The Microphone Locker

The microphone collection is built around character, transparency, and the range needed to record acoustic music at the highest level.

Tube and condenser microphones: Brauner VMA Tube (VM1 & VMX capsules), Josephson C700S, Neumann M149 Tube (four units), Neumann U87 Ai, Neumann TLM 193, Neumann KM 184 matched pair.

Stereo pairs and ribbons: DPA 2532-SP large diaphragm kit (4041-sp matched pair), Schoeps MK4 & MK21 matched pairs, Coles 4038 matched pair, Royer R-122V vacuum tube matched pair, Royer R-122 MKII, AEA-A440.

A full range of AKG, Audio-Technica, Audix, Sennheiser, and Shure workhorses rounds out the collection.
