Classical Piano Recording Studio Near NYC

Three Steinways, Hudson Valley, 2.5 hours from New York City

One Soul Studios is a classical piano recording studio near NYC, set on six acres of woods in New Baltimore, NY. Three uniquely voiced Steinway grand pianos. A live room engineered for the grand piano. Onsite lodging. 2.5 hours from New York City by car, 30 minutes from Albany International Airport.

This is a place to commit to the creative process,  a residential studio in the Hudson Valley designed for soloists and chamber ensembles who want to step out of the city and let the music breathe.

Three Steinway Grands for Classical Repertoire

Because no two Steinways sound alike “especially vintage ones ” we offer three distinct instruments. Choose the voice that fits your repertoire.

2005 Hamburg Steinway D — the gold standard for power and clarity Formerly the premier concert instrument in Lausanne, Switzerland, this Model D has been under the fingers of the world’s most elite classical pianists, including Radu Lupu, Martha Argerich, and Hélène Grimaud. It offers an unparalleled palette of tonal colors, immense sustain, and a breathtaking dynamic range  the natural choice for romantic and contemporary classical repertoire.

1904 New York Steinway B — deep, sweet, intimate From the “Golden Age” of the Queens factory in New York, this instrument conveys the intimacy, warmth, and harmonic darkness ideal for close-mic chamber sessions and evocative solo work.

1883 Centennial Steinway D — period sound, historical character A rare and historically significant precursor to the modern D-274. Fully rebuilt for our studio, it possesses a unique “period” sound that provides an authentic voice for the works of Couperin and Scarlatti, and for baroque and early classical repertoire that calls for a more direct timbre.

A Live Room Built for the Grand Piano

Grand pianos require space to breathe.
The main tracking room measures 32’×24′ with a 22-foot vaulted ceiling. The acoustic architecture is tuned to promote a well-balanced bloom of all frequencies with a musical decay of up to 0.8 seconds  long enough to support a Steinway’s natural sustain, short enough to keep articulation intact.
The space is equipped with Quadratic Residue Diffusers, Helmholtz absorbers, and acoustic polarization. Three large isolation booths allow for chamber configurations without compromising visual contact between players. A climate-controlled environment promotes the instruments’ stability year-round.
When a player is inspired by the instrument and the acoustics, better performances are achieved in fewer takes.

A Residential Studio in the Hudson Valley

Onsite lodging means the “creative bubble” never has to pop. The studio is set on six acres of woods in the historic hamlet of New Baltimore, NY, at the edge of the New Baltimore Conservancy and the Scenic Hudson Land Trust. Three bedrooms (two queen, one full), a full private kitchen, and walking access to hiking trails make a multi-day classical recording session feel less like a booking and more like a residency.
For pianists coming from New York City, we recommend a two-day stay. The setting allows you to settle in, reset your ears between takes, and approach long-form repertoire  a Beethoven sonata cycle, a Chopin ballade set, a full chamber program  without the rush of the city.
